Running is fun

Hello Everyone!
It has been a little while. Let me update you with what has been going on. Training has been going great. I am really finding running to be fun ...even the hard workouts Keegan has me doing! I have been running everyday, and all of my runs are at least 30 minutes. This past weekend I went out to the trails both days! I did a 54 minute trail run on Saturday and a 51 minute trail run on Sunday. I was very happy with Sundays run we did a little over 5 miles and it was on very hilly terrain!

Monday - 4 miles
Tuesday - 1 mile warm up , 8 (400's) all at 6:24-6:50 pace last two 93 seconds and 89 seconds
Wednesday - recovery run 30 mins
Thursday- Today I will run for 40 minutes
Friday- 3 by 1 mile hard
Saturday and Sunday - I will get in long runs out at Great Seal

Saturday, Keegan races in Portsmouth he is running super fast. He just ran a 9:11 (pr) for a 2 mile time trial ...crazy I know. It just amazes me how much foot speed he has and endurance ha !!

I have also been eating very healthy which is really helping. I can already tell a big difference in my body and also my recovery.

Fall is Beautiful

Training has been going great. I have really tried to run longer and harder. I have also been going out to the trails here at Great Seal Park and getting some good runs in with Keegan. I love going to the trails because you run on harder terrain and the time just flies by. Also, it is just so BEAUTIFUL! Fall time in Southern Ohio is awesome...the leaves are falling, the weather is cooler, and it is great!

Today, I was talking to Keegan about how blessed I am not to have any knee problems with running. If you don't know me that well...you might not know that I had two major knee surgeries due to playing soccer in college. I really persevered through both of them and got back on the field strong and healthy to finish my college career. I also believe running on trails helps my knees due to the soft surfaces, but enough with the knee problems... I am healthy, feeling more fit, and getting stronger.

Also, my U9 girls soccer team did great in their first MOSSL tournament (1-0-2). Very proud of them!!

Life is good...

Things can only go up from here

So, this week has been a great week of training so far for me. I am really starting to feel like I am getting into some what of a groove. I have only been training now for 6 weeks and will hopefully hit 25 miles by the end of this week. Yesterday I did a 5k time trial and hit my goal. I wanted to try and focus on going out about 8:30 pace for the first mile and work my way into the run. I ended up hitting the first mile at 8:29, the second mile I didn't do as well as I wanted...I was about 8:45, and for the last mile I was under 8 minute pace. Which honestly I am happy with! I know my times can only improve from this point if I keep running hard, running everyday, and listening to the advice Keegan is giving me. I call him my coach haha!!

On Wednesday I did a two mile run and did it in 14:58. So my coach aka Keegan is saying I need to start doing more long runs...so I don't feel like crap during the 2nd mile. Well, I completely agree! That is going to be my goal to really start adding more long runs in during the week. I feel like after 6 weeks of a base I am ready to start running longer.

I have also been doing yoga at least 4 to 5 times a week. I love doing Denise Austin's Yoga Burn DVDs she is awesome. I love hearing her say, "let me see that smiling face" after doing strenuous vinyasas! If you don't do yoga ...I highly recommend that you start. It is an amazing and refreshing workout. It really helps tone your body and give you excellent strength.

Also, good luck to Shawnee State's- Men's and Womens' Cross Country teams this weekend! They are racing in Michigan. I hope they do well, and I hope Keegan has a break out race that I know he has been waiting for. He trains so hard and is so determined in everything he does...he makes me want to be better and better!! Also, good luck to all the FCFC soccer teams this weekend in Columbus. I am excited to see what my u9 girls team can do in their first tournament. I know they will do great!!

Well, I am off to go run ....positive vibes

A new start...

Hello Friends!
The reason why I have decided to start blogging is because I have a new passion ...RUNNING! I have always played soccer ever since I was 3 years old. I still love soccer and it is my "true" passion. I am very active in the community where I live with soccer. I work for CYSL and coach multiple teams for First Capital Futbol Club...which I love to do!!

The reason why I am calling my blog New Passion- Old desire is because ever since I was in 7th grade I have always wanted to run for my school. I begged my parents multiple times if I could run in Middle school and in High school. They always insisted that I was doing a lot of activities...I played select soccer, AAU basketball, and played for my school in both sports. Also, my academics were very important! So, unfortunately I never got the chance to ever run on a "team". Just a quick fact (playing soccer you run anywhere between 5-10 miles a game depending on the position that you play).

The person that really got me into running was my husband, Keegan Rathkamp, he is a collegiate runner at Shawnee State University. He is someone I really look up to because , well, he is ....AWESOME!

So...if you decide to follow me this blog will be about my awesome life and journey to becoming a true runner and hopefully someday pretty decent!! The race that I am looking forward to doing is the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day...here in Chillicothe, Ohio!

Today I am running with Keegan and we are doing a 5k time trial. Then I will end the night with some yoga...Namaste
